The neck was short and broad, and consequently the head wasclose to the thorax; the breast and abdomen were almost of thesame size, and very different in their appearance from those of well-formed subjects of the same age; the upper and lower extremitieswere so far natural, but the hands and feet were swollen, and coveredwith a fissured skin, and the fingers and toes were so disfigured thatthey resembled claws; the natural thickening
