The underlying columns of the Hudson & Manhattanstation at the track level are 12 in. in diameter and ofample strength to take care of the proposed loading, butthe columns of the concourse level of the tunnel stationare only 7 in. in diameter and are strained up to full load-ing, especially in the capitals. Five of the concourse col-umns will be cut out and replaced by new 10-in. cast-ironcolumns, so that the loads will be safely supported. This building will be constructed of tile and plasterand with copper trimmings and metal sash. The heatingplant for the second floor and the extra toilets for the train-men are at the west end of the first floor. The HudsonStreet side on the second floor and a portion of the west andeast ends are to be inclosed with wire glass and sash are to be of hollow metal.
