Herniated Disc


This sagittal (lateral) MRI image of the lumbar spine shows a huge recurrent herniated disc at the L4-5 level. You can see it compress multiple nerve roots (string-like structures surrounded by dark cerebrospinal fluid). This patient had previously been operated on for a large herniated disc.
