Weir of small scale hydro electric power scheme, Scotland UK

This is the smallest of 3 weirs which form part of a small hydro electricity generating scheme. The water runs off river weirs using an intake grid chamber and onto a turbine generator The turbine is controlled from a panel and electricity generated is dependant on the amount and flow of water from the river. A tailrace returns the water from the turbine house into the river which flows into Loch Awe, which is the 3rd, third largest fresh water loch or lake in Scotland It is 35 kilometres long and an average of 1 kilometre wide Noted for its fish farms, walking, angling and trout fishing. Salmon pass through the loch It is in an area with several hydro electric power schemes. The generation of this clean electricity will help prevent an annual release of many tonnes of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, which is a major contibutor to global warming and climate change.
