Head distinct from neck, with more or less prominent snout, angular eanthus rostralis,^ and projecting supraocular; eye large, with round pupil; nostril a crescentic slit in a single or divided nasal; frontal narrow. Body cylindrical; scales smooth, more or less distinctly grooved longi- tudinally in the adult, with apical pits, in 17 or 19 rows; ventrals' rounded.
