Muteesa I of Buganda (1837-1884), 19th-century illustration. Muteesa I reigned in Buganda from 1856 to his death in 1884. His formal title was Kabaka of Buganda. He is said to have had 87 wives and 98 children. First contact was made with European explorers during his reign. Buganda is today part of the country of Uganda. Artwork published in 1864.
