Eosinophils in inflamed appendix, light micrograph
Light micrograph showing eosinophil granulocytes in the lamina propria of an inflamed human appendix. These cells contain abundant red granules (eosinophils) in their cytoplasm. This type of white blood cell is responsible for combating parasites, and has a role in mechanisms associated with allergy and asthma.
