But it is upon the ball, held Thursday even-ing, October 18, that chroniclers of the visitare wont to dwell with most unction. The com-mittee in charge of invitations included suchimposing personages as Longfellow, EdwardEverett and Jared Sparks; but lesser peoplemight have been more efficient. The crowd wasso great that three ladies fainted on the wayto the ball room and one had a fit. Possibl,y,however, it was the flutter incident to meeting.
