Horizontal angular abstract close up of "Il Porcellino" a large bronze statue of a wild boar, on the south side of Mercato Nuovo 'New Market'. Il Porcellino, the Italian word for piglet, is the local Florentine name for the bronze fountain of a boar which can be found in the Mercato Nuovo. The fountain figure was sculpted and cast by Pietro Tacca in 1612. Traditionally, visitors to the statue place a coin in it's mouth and rub the boar's snout for luck that has kept the snout in a state of polished sheen while the rest of the board's body has patinated to a dull brownish-green.
