Dancers perform a section of Akram Khan Company's new production called iTMOi (in the mind of Igor) which ran at Sadler's Wells Theatre from 28 May - 1 June. The production, which was specially commissioned to celebrate the centenary of Igor Stravinky's The Right of Spring which falls on 29th May 2013 is to return to tour the UK after a successful sell-out world tour. This image features the full cast of dancers performing a scene called Ceremony accompanied by music by Nitin Sawhney. Described as “spellbinding” by The Times, the work commemorates the centenary of Igor Stravinsky’s legendary The Rites of Spring and will be taking centre stage at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Suffolk, as part of Aldeburgh Music and DanceEast’s Snape Dances programme for an exclusive two-night run from 29 – 30 November. With an entirely original score by Nitin Sawhney, Jocelyn Pook and Ben Frost, iTMOi is another extraordinary artistic collaboration from Khan and his talented team, which includes costume designer Kimie Nakano, lighting designer Fabiana Piccioli, set designer Matt Deely, dramaturge Ruth Little and a large cast of 11 international dancers. Inspired by Stravinsky’s original Rite of Spring, the work combines visually arresting imagery and powerful dance to explore the human condition, as well as the way in which Stravinsky transformed the classical music world by evoking emotions through patterns and their disruption, building an episodic drama around the ritual of sacrifice. Akram Khan said: “iTMOi is a project that uses Stravinsky's life and work as a starting point, in which I focus on his seminal piece of music The Rite of Spring, and particularly the story of sacrifice as the main theme of his ambitious work.”
