Martin & Forbes showed some excellent Ophelia and Hoosier Beauty roses, besides a yellow sport of Ophelia, which they had propagated. It is a light canary color. The carnations shown by this firm were Cottage Maid and Mount Hood. Herbert & Fleish- auer, of McMinnville, sent in a large display of asters. Clarke Bros, exhibited several vases of named gladioli. Mr. Clarke expressed the opinion that gla- dioli will increase in public favor. E. J. Steele brought in some of his new pan- sies that have the color of wallflowers and a ruflBed edge. Various Notes. Feldenheimer's jewelry store had a fine display of Crissey's gladioli last week. Several of the other stores showed dahlias. The Routledge Seed & Floral Co. will have an exhibit at the state fair at Salem. E. H. White was one of the judges at the Tacoma dahlia show September 14 and 15. Mr. White's dahlia gardens at Portland boulevard and Albina avenue are just coming into bloom. His brother, who is associated with him, expects soon to join the army. Clarke Bros.' store will celebrate its twentieth anniversary October 3. They intend to establish a lunch room soon on the third floor of their building. Visitors last week were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Mills, of Kalispell, Mont., and Mrs. Ralph M. Ward and daughter. D. M. Cookingham has traded his greenhouse range for a farm and expects to move to the latter place soon.
