Temporal lobes in the brain. Computer artwork of a person's head showing the brain inside. The highlighted area shows the temporal lobes. The cerebrum (telencephalon) of the brain is divided into four lobes (temporal, occipital, frontal and parietal), mirrored on each hemisphere. The temporal lobes are involved in auditory processing and are the location of the primary auditory cortex. They are important for the processing of semantics (meaning) in both speech and vision. and contain the hippocampus, which plays a key role in the formation of long-term memory.
