Adler Planetarium, Chicago, USA. This planetarium and museum was founded in 1930 by the US philanthropist Max Adler. It is located on Northerly Island, a peninsula on the shores of Lake Michigan near central Chicago. The main dome seen here contains the Sky Theater planetarium. The architect, Ernest A. Grunsfeld, was awarded a gold medal for his design. The Adler Planetarium was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. In 2011, the old Zeiss projectors were replaced with new digital projectors, forming the Grainger Sky Theater, launched with the 'Deep Space Adventure' show. The 'Planet Explorers' exhibition opened in 2010.
