Y.) surfacelines have been secured through theappointment of H. Hobart Porter, vice-president and general manager of theBrookljm City Railroad, to direct thesurface lines of the Brooklyn RapidTransit Company. The appointmentwas made by Lindley M. Garrison, re-ceiver for the Brooklyn Rapid TransitSystem, to take effect on Feb. 16. Theoperation of the surface lines will bein direct charge of Clinton E. Morgan,assistant general manager of theBrooklyn City Railroad. New Arrangement Explained The new arrangement re-establishes,so far as operating conditions are con-cerned, the unity of control which ex-. C. E, MORGAN isted prior to Oct. 19, 1919, when thelines of the Brooklyn City Railroad,until that date operated as a part ofthe Brooklyn Rapid Transit System,were returned to their owners becauseof the inability of the latter companyto meet rental payments. These lines,which comprise approximately one-h-^.fof the Brooklyn surface line mileage,have since been operated as an inde-pendent system under the direction ofMr. Porter, assisted by Mr. remaining B. R. T. lines continuedto be operated by the Brooklyn RapidTransit Company. Mr. Porter in Charge The present arrangement is for thepurpose of affording a unified and har-monious service by the various new plan brings under the head-ship of Mr. Porter, under the receiver,the lines of the Nassau Electric Rail-road, the Brooklyn, Queens County &Suburban Railroad and the ConeyIsland & Brooklyn Railroad. Whilethese lines will be operated in unisonwith those of the Brooklyn City Rail-road, the
