Capircorn Haus, low-energy office building and Media Tower (left), Medienhafen, Dusseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
CAPRICORN HAUS is unique in its meandering shape. This structure allows natural daylight to reach every single workplace. The atria are dispensers of fresh-air, a source of light and a noise barrier all in one. The floor space is used optimally in this way. The building has decen-tralised air-conditioning, which allows the needs of the occupants to be individually and flexibly considered. The technology necessary for this, which includes an extremely flat exhaust-air extractor, is integrated in the facade elements. Intelligent automatic building controls, based on an open IT system, individually control over data points all room components such as lighting, shade, heating and cooling. This deciding aspect for efficient building management helps CAPRICORN HAUS to achieve a primary energy requirement which is 20% below the demands of the Energy Saving Regulations.
