The efforts made by the Department to secure the planting of shade trees and thecultivation of flowers in the school grounds, were heartily supported by teachers andtrustees. Arbor day has now become one of the most interesting and profitable holidaysof the year. Since 1885, 254,122 trees have been planted, 15,337 of these in 1896. I have the honor to be.
