Eleven daysbefore admission he had suffered from severe shooting pains inthe right chest, which kept him from work, had a dry cough, hadexpectorated a little blood, and felt weak and sick. On admis-sion, his temperature was 103° ; pulse, 120, regular. There wasdulness over the left low^er chest, with bronchial breathing, butno tactile fremitus behind.
