Buff-collared Nightjar Caprimulgus ridgwayi California Gulch ARIZONA United States May Adult Male Caprimulgidae

One of the most sought after nightbirds by birdwatchers in the United States, the rare Buff-collared Nightjar is named for the buffy ring around its neck. The song "Cook-cook-a-cheea" is very loud. Nighjars are called "goatsuckers" for the mistaken belief that their large gape allowed them to take milk from livestock.
