The half timbered church of Outines in the Champagne region of France
Built in the early 16th century close to a fortified mound, Drosnay church is a huge building that owes its unity and character to the large gable roof which covers it completely. This roof almost certainly replaced an 18th century staggered roof. On the western side, the high gable is protected from the rain by a mixed coating which blends vertical wood cladding and horizontal battens, a system known locally as tavillons. Inside, there is 18th century wood panelling as well as the master altar and its altarpiece, which date from 1667.
