Tertiary alcohol molecule. Molecular model of tertiary butanol (C4H10O), also known as tertiary butyl alcohol, trimethyl carbinol or 2-methyl propan-2

Tertiary alcohol molecule. Molecular model of tertiary butanol (C4H10O), also known as tertiary butyl alcohol, trimethyl carbinol or 2-methyl propan-2-ol. Carbon atoms are black, hydrogen atoms are white and oxygen atoms are red. Tertiary butanol is produced by absorbing isobutene (C4H8) in sulphuric acid and distilling the liquor. It is used as a stabiliser for methanol in petrol.
