In August, 1S56, the firm of M. &S. N. Lewis, which had continued for fifty years was succeeded bythat of John T. Lewis & Brothers. The firm was composed ofJohn T. Saunders and George T. Lewis, brothers and then nephewsof the senior partners, Samuel T., Jr., and William F. Lewis,Edward F. Beale, Jr., and Saunders Lewis, Jr. The firm was incorporated in 1S89 as John T. Lewis,Bros. & John T. Lewis, Bros. & Companys Works The present officers are, E. F. Beale, Jr., President, and WoodruffJones, Secretary and Treasurer. The premises on East Thompsonand East Huntington streets cover an area of seven acres. They areto-day the largest manufacturers and dealers in linseed oil in Phila-delphia as well as the largest exporters of oil cake. They have ac-quired a national reputation and their trade in paint and colors ex-tends over all the United States. Messrs. E. N. Beale, Jr. and have long been connected with the business. The high reputation established by the old firm for the purityand general excellence of their products has been fully maintainedby their successors and the goods having their trade mark areeverywhere regarded as among the best in the country, andendorsed by the United States Government as a standard counting house of the Company is still continued at 231 SouthFront street, being the original location
