BANDED GROUND GECKO, Geckoella dekkanensis. Aarey Milk Colony, Mumbai, India
The branded ground gecko has a different shaped foot to its cousins. A normal gecko has sticky hairs on its feet and they peel back their feet to release their grip. A branded ground gecko has a foot shaped like an Iguanas foot with claws on either toe to forage through the soil and undergrowth. The Branded Ground Gecko eats small insects and grows only to about 5 inches long. It has eyes that protrude from its head and has horizontal pupils. It hunts at night and takes refuge from the sun and predators during the day. The branded ground gecko is a creamy pinkish colour with a brown band around its body. Some of its skin it transparent so you can see its organs as it moves around the forest floor. Their feet are a completely different shape to a regular gecko.
