On the Continent the largerose window is almost always a principal feature ofthe west front; with us it is comparatively rare,and more often found in the transept ends than at thewest end. The south fronts of Howden and Selby are THE DECORATED STYLE. 163 also fine examples of the arrangement of the side ofa large building of this style, with large windows bothto the aisle and the clear-story, separated by buttresseswith pinnacles.
