She said some color additives had been termed safe by the Federal gov- ernment and then later found to be unsafe and were withdrawn. Rep. Gee said Wisconsin is the second largest cranberry growing state in the country and produced 40% of the nation's cranberries. He said Wisconsin is the only state that does not permit color to be added to artificially sweetened cranberries. Most cranberry products don't need coloring, Gee said.
