The Georgia Journal, of Mil-ledgeville, a consistent opponent ofGov. Lumpkin and his strong-armgang, printed the following pro-test under date of Tuesday, , 1835: A rumor reached us sometime sinceof another outrage committed by theGeorgia Guard. It was vague anduncertain, however, and as we did notwish to array in the catalogue of vio-lations of law committed by this arm-ed force a single outrage that was notstated on good authority, we hesitatedto give it publicity. This rumor hasproved true. It seems that this Guard, under thecommand of one of the subalterns, crossed the line of the State and kid-napped from the State of TennesseeJohn Ross, the principal chief of the 76 A History of Rome and Floyd County.
