In 1904 Harmsworth was made a baronetand two years later was raised to the peerageas Baron Northcliffe. During the WorldWar his voice and pen violently attackedwhatever of mismanagement he thought ex-isted in the British government, and his in-fluence was very great. His unselfishpatriotism was never questioned, but his at-titude kept him out of the coalition Cab-inet. In 1917 he was sent to the UnitedStates at the head of the British War Com-mission, on business connected with the eco-nomic phases of the ORTH DAKOTA, sixteenth in sizeamong the states of the American Union,has its northern limits at the internationalboundary, with Manitoba and Saskatchewanat the north.
