County Clerk George W. Lee, of Reno county, is a native of Senecacounty, Ohio, where he was burn on April 27, i860, son of Thomas Davidand Melinda ( Russigie) Lee, the former of whcjm, born near the town ofPen Yixu, in Vates county, Xew York, in 1814, died in 1868, and thelatter, born at Poughkcepsic, in Dutchess county, Xew \cnk, in 1815, diedin 1881. Thomas David Lee grew to manhood in his native county and whentwenty years of age married, he and his wife settling in Seneca county,Ohio, where they entered a tract of land from the government and createda pioneer home in the then wilderness and there spent the remainder of. ^^coet^ RENO COUNTY, KANSAS. 417 their lives. Thomas D. Lee was an ardent Democrat and to<jk an activeinterest in the political affairs of his home county. He served fur manyyears as justice of the peace in his township and was occupying that positionwhen he died. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopalchurch. Eight children were born to them, the subject of this sketch beingthe youngest of this family. George W. Lee was but eight years of age when his father died and hegrew to manhood in the town of Bloomville, Ohio, his early education beingsecured in the schools of that place. He engaged in the livery business, alsoin the buying and selling of horses, and was thus engaged for nine years, oruntil 1885, in which year he came to this county and bought a tract of landin Bell township, which he speedily improved and there he made his homefor eighteen years, becoming known as one of the most progr
