A red brick traffic bridge known as the Red Bridge across the Elizabeth River in Campbell Town, Tasmania, Australia. The town is rich in convict history, and the Red Bridge was designed by convict engineer James Blackburn. Using penal labour, the bridge is the oldest surviving brick arch bridge as well as the oldest bridge anywhere on the Australian National Highways. Construction was commenced in 1836 and completed in 1838, using million red clay bricks made on-site by the convicts. The stone abutments are original, making this a rare example of early Australian stonework.
