London, UK. 4th March 2017. Buddhist monk Rev Nagase from Battersea Park on the march though London from Tavistock Square where the BMA have their headquarters to a rally in Parlimament Square in protest against the cuts and privatisation of the NHS which they say is at breaking point. At the rally before the march, local councils who had turned down the Sustainability and Transformation Plans for hospital closures and cuts in services were loudly cheered and others were urged to follow their example as the cuts have already caused many premature deaths. These plans and other measures are a part of a rapid stealthy privatisation with medical services increasingly being run for private profit rather than public benefit, threatening an increasingly underfunded public service which delivers high quality service at low cost and remains the envy of the world.
