The combustionspace (B in Fig. 3)back of the grate was also enclosed at the rear by a water leg. Theboiler was internally fired in two furnaces. The force of the explosion ruptured the rear tube sheet, tore therear water leg away from the side water legs and pulled away bracesand staybolts at the rear end of the boiler.
