The color of the fruit when fully ripe is a rich, bright red, but before reaching this stage it undergoes several interesting changes. It can be shipped in barrels, like apples, if picked in the early stage of ripening, and will keep from one to four weeks if stored in a cool ; We advise our customers to try it. Jones Paragon Watermelon (1898). —It being our custom to give new varieties a trial before listing in Catalogue, we sent sample packages to customers in different sections for trial and report, and from all come words of highest praise for the "new 1898" melon. This is a distinct new variety un- known to catalogues, and when the seed are seen all will readily admit that it is not an old kiod sailing un- der a new name, and the ripe fruit needs only to be eaten to be appre- ciated. As will be seen from accom- panying illustra- tion, it is the pop- ular oblong shape, beautifully striped, rind thin, flesh scarlet, crisp and of delicious flavor, while the seeds are the smallest we have ever seen in any watermelon, one pound containing as many seeds as three or four pounds of other varieties.
