OLD STATE HOUSE RE-DEDICATION. 107 a young- architect just beginning the series of workswhich makes the name of WilUam Washburn famiharto us. It was a time when chissical types were invogue, and, therefore, the additions were patternedon Grecian models. Heavy wooden poiticos weieadded at each end, and these halls on the secondfloor were fitted to the uses of the City this room the Aldermen met; in the Repre-sentatives Hall the Common Council. The pre-ceding extracts from Bowen and Shaw, with theaccompanying pictures, fully illustrate this occu-pancy, which lasted for ten years, until 1840, andwhich, indeed, is recollected by many of ourcitizens. To complete the record we copy the followingfrom the third edition of Bowens Picture, dated1838, when there was already a discussion aboutleaving the building: — CiTT Hall. —The first building for governmeutal business waserected at the head of what was then called King-street, about1658
