1913 Black Country Strike: In May 1913 a procession of strikers from Handsworth & Oldbury travelled to Saltley to try to get support from local carriage workers. This photograph shows a large group of men demonstrating in the street. Two men are standing on a cart which has 'Uncle Joe of Saltley' written on it. Some men are holding up collection boxes with 'Railway carriage and waggon workers strike fund' written on. The shops in the background include Hewes and Edwards. A sign for 'Stephenson Place' can be seen on the streetlamp. The photographic postcard was sold by Ridge of Saltley
