The Roman baths, Bath, 19th century. Artist: Unknown

The Roman baths, Bath, 19th century. The city of Bath was first documented as a Roman spa, although tradition suggests that it was founded earlier. The waters from its spring were believed to be a cure for many afflictions. The great Roman baths fell into disrepair after the Romans left Britain.
