Chicago is famous for its movable bridges and has more of that design than any other city in the United States. Shown is the Kedzie Avenue CN Railway Swing Bridge over the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal on the city's southwest span was built in 1899 for use by the Illinois Central Railroad and is still in use. The Willis Tower in downtown Chicago can be seen at the far left background. The bridge is another symbol of the city's strong connection to railroading and its impact on Chicago's history and development.
