Personal effects of left by patients can be seen strewn around this now abandoned structure. Its long and intimidating corridors and imposing walls create a heightened sense of oppression and fear. Located in Portrane, Ireland the former Portrane Asylum was built under British rule as an alylum for up to 1,200 inmates. Now rebranded as St Ita’s Hospital, to this day the grounds still host patients with learning difficulties. An urban explorer only known as ‘Obscuraprints’ explained more about how and why he took these photographs.
