Shira Camp, Mount Kilimanjaro

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in December 2014. Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa and sometimes referred to as the roof of Africa. It is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Its peak, Uhuru peak sits at an altitude of 5895m above sea level. Kilimanjaro sits close to the equator, yet ice-fields are found at its top. Kilimanjaro is the 4th highest of the seven summits of the world. Most fit people can climb Kilimanjaro, however it is a true test of endurance and more a mental challenge, particularly on the last summit-day. At the end of the day, it is a very rewarding and humbling experience.
