Iart of the air may beadmitted at the bridge wall, throiiKb tlie narrow vertical passageshown in the drawing. Coal is stored in bins located in the upperpart of the boiler house, and is led down to the space in front of thefurnace by vertical pipes. The position of the coal pipes and also. SECTION OF STATION. of the coal conveyor for lifting the coal into the overhead bins isshown in one of the drawings. A large horizontal flue leading tothe chimney is located immediately in the rear of the water andsteam drums, into which each boiler discharges its flius gases. Thespace underneath this flue gives access to the rear end of the boilersand to their mud drums. The whole arrangement is an excellentone for a street railway plant. Ample room for coal storage isavailable above the oven furnace, so that the floor space usually re-quired for storing coal is saved. The oven insures greater economyof fuel when soft coal is used than the ordinary furnace built underthe tubes, and the arrangement for forced draft gives provision fordriving the boilers far beyond their rated power in case of emergen-cies. SufiTicient space is left in front of the boiler for the easy re-moval and replacement of a tube, and for removing the scale fromthe tubes by means of
