Spotted Lanternflies

Spotted lanternflies in Elverson, Pennsylvania, in August 2018. The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is native to China and was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014. It has since spread to several nearby states, and has the potential to become a major agricultural pest. Lanternflies feed on a wide range of fruit, ornamental, and woody trees, and they excrete a sticky fluid which promotes mold growth around the host tree.
