Bougainvillea growing in the ground of the City Palace Hotel, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.
Bougainvillea come in a variety of colours. What we may think of as purple, pink, magenta and other brightly coloured flowers, are in fact, bracts. The actual flowers are small and generally white. The bracts are at their best in spring. They are sometimes known as "paper flowers" because the bracts are thin and papery. They are natives of South America but are now found throughout warm regions of the world.
