Lima Peru South America .Caballo de Paso and Marinera dancer at mamacona hacienda in 2006
On the hacienda mamacona in a Lima suburb a traditional Peruvian dance is being performed. The Marinera has a rhythm rooted in both African and in Spanish origins. The dance has a strong association with the Caballo de Paso, the Peruvian pacing horse, as the graceful stepping gait of the horse to accompanying music is complimented by a female dancer. The Marinera originated in the north coastal settlements of Peru and both the dance and the Caballo de Paso are celebrated at the annual spring festival in the city of Trujillo.
