The Hala Sultan Mosque on the west bank of Larnaka Salt Lake is the most important sanctuary of the Muslims in Cyprus. It is said that Umm Haram (turk. Hala Sultan), the wet nurse of the Prophet, fell of her mule in Cyprus in 647 and is buried here. Also Khadidja, the grandmother of the Jordanian King Hussein, who died in Cyprus in 1930, is buried in the Tekke. The mosque was built in its present form in 1816.
