USSR DAY AT BATHURST, GAMBIA. 23 FEBRUARY 1943. - The flag of the Soviet Union and the Union Jack flying side by side as his Excellency the Hon H R R Blood, Governor of Gambia, stepped forward to take the salute at the Bathurst celebrations of USSR day. On His Excellency's right is Brigadier Burden (Area Commander); fourth from left is the Honourable Shiek Omar Fye Senior (unofficial member of the Legislative Council) and against the mast (right) is the Hon Mr Justice Johnson. ,
