Thismethod of forming rail joints consists in cleaning the rail ends to be joined,forming or adjusting a mould upon the rail endsand over the joint so as tosurround the webs and base flanges thereof. The mould is heated to therail ends, and moulten metal is poured into the mould around and beneaththe base flanges of both rails and uniting the metal directly to the surfacesof the rail ends by fusion. The hosts ofthe association were the re-presentatives of the WilkesBarre & Wyoming ValleyTraction Company, andnothing was left undone tomake the stay of the visitorsthoroughly enjoyable. The headquarters of the Associationwere at the Wyoming Valley House, which looks out on theSusquehanna River, and the meetings were held at the NinthRegiment Armory, a few blocks distant, where the exhibitof street railway supplies was located. All visitors werefurnished with tickets on the local street railway system,so that the fact that the headquarters and place of meetingwere some little distance apartdid not prove to be a matter ofinconvenience.
