Muslim castle of Calatrava la Vieja and Guadiana river. Fortress Umayyad City (VIII century). From the twelfth century, to form part of Castila, it belonged to the Order of the Temple. During the High Middle Ages, was the only major city in al-Andalus in the valley of the Guadiana river.
