He signed up for a course, but two weeks prior he cancelled the classes and a week later he reported to boot camp. “Honestly, the Marines seemed like the biggest challenge,” Johanson said. “I wanted something more physically challenging than mentally challenging.” While initially college wasn’t for him, Johanson is considering school now. He is unsure if he wants to make the military a career but he is thinking about becoming an officer. “I either want to go reserves and complete my degree and be an officer, or if I get lucky I’ll get accepted to MECEP (Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program) and the Marine Corps will send me to school,” Johanson said. “Either way I want to be an infantry officer.” After he finishes serving in the military, Johanson plans to become a teacher. “I love teaching, it’s great to train Marines on history, drill, all the basics,” Johanson said. “When I become a civilian I want to have a greater impact. I want to focus on and teach real world issues.” In his free time he likes to play football, basketball and baseball. He loves fantasy football and he likes to read political books. “I follow the NFL more than anything, after working 12-13 hour days, it’s the first thing I check,” Johanson said. “I also like political books, even fiction ones. I’m very interested in politics; it’s practical knowledge. Right now, I’m reading Hunger Games.” Johanson also likes to produce music. He uses a computer program to create music, mostly hip hop and R&B. He has even made a few soundtracks and sold some albums. “I listen to everything from Luther Vandross to Disturbed,” Johanso
