White's sea horse (Hippocampus whitei), illustration. This fish is found in the south-western Pacific, in weedy, shallow areas and seagrass beds or on sponges. It feeds on tiny invertebrates, which it sucks in through its long snout. The male sea horse possesses a pouch, in which the female lays her eggs. These are then fertilised and incubated inside the pouch.
