Seasickness. Young girl on a boat at sea suffering from seasickness. Seasickness is a type of motion sickness and is a common complaint. It is caused by disturbance of the organ of balance in the inner ear, leading to uneasiness, nausea and sometimes vomiting. One solution is for the sufferer to look at a distant point on the horizon, which can help restore a sense of balance. Suffering may also be reduced by sitting in the centre of the boat. Several drugs are available that can prevent seasickness if taken before travel.
