The volume, however, ap-pears to have had no proper editing, and every page is dis-figured by the grossest typographical errors. While it is theearliest and the only authentic edition of the Plays, it cannotbe accepted as anything like an infallible authority in allcases for what Shakespeare actually STRATFORD CHURCH, WEST END. The volume just described is commonly known as the firstfolio. A second folio edition, including the same plays, ap-peared in 1632. It contains some new readings, which are SHAKESPEARE. 7 probably nothing more than the conjectural emendations ofthe unknown editor. A third folio edition was issued in 1664. This containsthe thirty-six Plays of the preceding folios, with Pericles andsix dramas^ not included in the modern editions. A fourthand last folio reprint followed in 1685.
