With a swim speed of up to 30 km/h the Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua) is the fastes among the penguins. Porpoising is a very efficient way of high-speed travelling as the animal takes advantage of the lower resistance in air than underwater and is able to breathe with open beak.
